Weddings by Sam

Sam Spicer Photography, Inspired by Love, Life & Nature, Tokyo Wedding Photography That Tells a Story

Weddings are filled with meaning. They’re not just a celebration, but a special marker in time, a rare moment when everyone you care about is gathered in one place and your emotions can run free. These days deserve to be remembered with care, not just documented, but truly felt in the photographs that remain.

I’m Sam, a British wedding photographer based in Tokyo. For most of the year, I’m working across Japan, often in nature-rich places just outside the city. In the summer months, I return to the UK, where I shoot weddings in Kent, London and beyond. Sometimes Thailand, too. Travel is a big part of who I am, and it’s given me a calm, thoughtful approach that’s especially helpful on a day where emotions (and logistics) can be complex.

Wherever I go, my goal stays the same: to capture weddings in a way that feels relaxed, real and quietly cinematic. I’m not interested in stiff dramatic posing or ticking off a shot list. I’m here to notice the unscripted moments, the light, the energy of the day, and turn it into something timeless.

come say hello +

It matters to me because of all the work I do, weddings always remain the most meaningful.

These are the photographs that will be shared, framed, and passed down. They carry the weight of memory and emotion in a way few others do. It’s not just about recording who was there or what the flowers looked like. It’s about the story, the feeling, the atmosphere of the day.

It’s always the quiet frames that stay with me. The pause just before the music starts. The shift of sunlight across a tatami floor. A nervous laugh tucked into someone’s shoulder. These moments aren’t planned, but they carry the weight of the day. Often, they tell the real story far better than any perfectly posed shot ever could.

Good wedding photography isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. And my aim is always to create honest, emotive images that feel timeless. Not trendy, not overdone, just deeply human.

What to expect when you pick me for your wedding day

Every couple, every day, every setting is different. That’s exactly what I love about weddings. I don’t arrive with a complex mapped out plan or a mind full of poses. I take the time to read the room, to tune into the pace of your day, your personalities, and to work in a way that feels natural and unobtrusive. Most of the time, I’ll be in the background, observing, anticipating and quietly capturing things as they unfold. When needed, I’ll offer guidance to help you feel comfortable, but I’ll never interrupt a moment just for the sake of a shot.

My style leans towards documentary with a touch of fine art. I’m drawn to soft, natural light, thoughtful composition and imagery that feels timeless rather than trendy. My style is gentle storytelling, with enough space for you to feel like yourselves.

I know being in front of the camera can feel a bit strange at first. Most couples say they quickly forget I’m even there. That’s always my aim, for you to feel at ease, present and able to enjoy your day, knowing everything meaningful is being quietly taken care of.

Where I Work, Tokyo & Beyond

While I’m based in Tokyo for most of the year, my work often takes me across Japan and further afield. From Kyoto to the backstreets of Tokyo or trails near Mount Fuji and the Mountains in Nagano. I’m always drawn to places that hold meaning and atmosphere.

I also regularly travel back to the UK during the summer months, photographing weddings in Kent, London and beyond. These familiar landscapes still feel like home, and I love returning for the joy and energy of a good British wedding.

Occasionally, I take on work in Thailand and other destinations. Travel has always been part of my life and my photography. It’s shaped the way I see things, and it’s taught me how to move easily between places, people and cultures.

If you’re planning a wedding in Japan or the UK let’s chat. Wherever it is, I’ll bring the same thoughtful approach and calm energy with me.
