Weddings by Sam
Sam Spicer Photography, Inspired by Love, Life & Nature, Tokyo Wedding Photography That Tells a Story
Weddings are filled with meaning. Theyβre not just a celebration, but a special marker in time, a rare moment when everyone you care about is gathered in one place and your emotions can run free. These days deserve to be remembered with care, not just documented, but truly felt in the photographs that remain.
Iβm Sam, a British wedding photographer based in Tokyo. For most of the year, Iβm working across Japan, often in nature-rich places just outside the city. In the summer months, I return to the UK, where I shoot weddings in Kent, London and beyond. Sometimes Thailand, too. Travel is a big part of who I am, and itβs given me a calm, thoughtful approach thatβs especially helpful on a day where emotions (and logistics) can be complex.
Wherever I go, my goal stays the same: to capture weddings in a way that feels relaxed, real and quietly cinematic. Iβm not interested in stiff dramatic posing or ticking off a shot list. Iβm here to notice the unscripted moments, the light, the energy of the day, and turn it into something timeless.
It matters to me because of all the work I do, weddings always remain the most meaningful.
These are the photographs that will be shared, framed, and passed down. They carry the weight of memory and emotion in a way few others do. Itβs not just about recording who was there or what the flowers looked like. Itβs about the story, the feeling, the atmosphere of the day.
Itβs always the quiet frames that stay with me. The pause just before the music starts. The shift of sunlight across a tatami floor. A nervous laugh tucked into someoneβs shoulder. These moments arenβt planned, but they carry the weight of the day. Often, they tell the real story far better than any perfectly posed shot ever could.
Good wedding photography isnβt about perfection. Itβs about presence. And my aim is always to create honest, emotive images that feel timeless. Not trendy, not overdone, just deeply human.
What to expect when you pick me for your wedding day
Every couple, every day, every setting is different. Thatβs exactly what I love about weddings. I donβt arrive with a complex mapped out plan or a mind full of poses. I take the time to read the room, to tune into the pace of your day, your personalities, and to work in a way that feels natural and unobtrusive. Most of the time, Iβll be in the background, observing, anticipating and quietly capturing things as they unfold. When needed, Iβll offer guidance to help you feel comfortable, but Iβll never interrupt a moment just for the sake of a shot.
My style leans towards documentary with a touch of fine art. Iβm drawn to soft, natural light, thoughtful composition and imagery that feels timeless rather than trendy. My style is gentle storytelling, with enough space for you to feel like yourselves.
I know being in front of the camera can feel a bit strange at first. Most couples say they quickly forget Iβm even there. Thatβs always my aim, for you to feel at ease, present and able to enjoy your day, knowing everything meaningful is being quietly taken care of.
Where I Work, Tokyo & Beyond
While Iβm based in Tokyo for most of the year, my work often takes me across Japan and further afield. From Kyoto to the backstreets of Tokyo or trails near Mount Fuji and the Mountains in Nagano. Iβm always drawn to places that hold meaning and atmosphere.
I also regularly travel back to the UK during the summer months, photographing weddings in Kent, London and beyond. These familiar landscapes still feel like home, and I love returning for the joy and energy of a good British wedding.
Occasionally, I take on work in Thailand and other destinations. Travel has always been part of my life and my photography. Itβs shaped the way I see things, and itβs taught me how to move easily between places, people and cultures.
If youβre planning a wedding in Japan or the UK letβs chat. Wherever it is, Iβll bring the same thoughtful approach and calm energy with me.

Kind Words
βSam did a phenomenal job capturing our elopement in Japan. From the consultation all the way till the delivery of the gallery, Sam was wonderful to work with. He helped us plan our special day together and made very good recommendations on photoshoot locations. Sam is not only a talented photographer who is passionate for his craft, but he also goes above and beyond to make our elopement dream come true. I am so happy that I stumbled upon your blog when I was looking for a Tokyo based photographer. Thank you so much, Sam!β
