Elopements by Sam
Sam Spicer Photography, thoughtful, natural & rooted in story, Japan and Tokyo elopement Photography.
There’s something incredibly powerful about choosing to step away from the noise and celebrate your love quietly, in a place that speaks to you. Elopements aren’t about escaping tradition; they’re about creating space for something more personal, more meaningful, and more connected to who you are.
I specialise in photographing elopements across Japan, from misty forests and hidden shrines to lakeside paths near Mount Fuji and old wooden streets in Kyoto. Whether you're planning something simple or a multi-day adventure, I’m here to help you shape the experience and capture it with care.
Some couples come to me with a clear vision, others just know they want something different. Either way, I offer a mix of photography-only options and full adventure elopement planning.
That means I can help you find the right spot, liaise with local vendors, organise permits, and build a day that feels calm, beautiful and completely your own.
Why Elope In Japan?
Japan has a stillness to it. A sense of space, calm and quiet beauty that makes it a perfect place to slow down and truly be present. Whether you're walking through a forest trail at sunrise, exchanging vows beneath Mount Fuji, or tucked away in a traditional teahouse, there’s something about this country that invites intention.
Eloping here allows you to let go of expectations and build a day that reflects who you are, not what a wedding "should" be. You get to choose the location, the pace, and the feel. And with fewer moving parts, there's room for spontaneity, real emotion and a deeper connection to the place you're in.
I’ve lived in Japan for several years and continue to explore its lesser-known corners, always on the lookout for new backdrops that feel intimate and cinematic. Whether you’re coming from overseas or living locally, I can help guide you through the experience, from location ideas to cultural considerations, so it all feels effortless.
What an elopement with me looks like for you and the one you love
No two elopements are the same, and that’s exactly the point. Whether you’ve already chosen a spot or are starting from scratch, I offer two ways to work together: photography only, or full adventure elopement planning with all the extras taken care of.
Some couples just need me to turn up, camera in hand, and quietly document the day. Others want help building something from the ground up, a custom plan shaped around their values, location dreams and sense of adventure.
If you're choosing the planning route, I’ll work closely with you to design a day that blends nature, culture and calm. That might mean a morning hike through a misty mountain trail, a lakeside ceremony with Mount Fuji in the background, or a quiet moment beneath the cherry blossoms in Kyoto. We can keep it simple or go all-in with transport, permits, flowers and more. I’ll guide you through every detail so nothing feels overwhelming.
I’m there with a calm presence and a creative eye, capturing everything as it naturally unfolds.

Are you
Getting married in England?
Although I’m based in Tokyo for most of the year, I regularly return to the UK in the summer months, and I always make time for a few weddings while I’m there. There may also come a time when I move back fully, but not just yet.
If you’re planning a celebration in Kent, London, or somewhere else in the UK and feel like we’d be a good fit, I’d love to hear from you. Just drop me a message with your date and location, and I’ll let you know my availability and pricing.
Ready for something meaningful
Whether you’ve already picked a spot or you’re still working out what this elopement could look like, I’d love to hear more about it.
