Solo Portrait Session wearing Kimono in Asakusa

I recently had the pleasure of shooting this styled Kimono photoshoot in one of Tokyo’s oldest and most traditional neighbourhoods, Asakusa. Whilst I photograph a lot of couples and families here in Tokyo I also do some commercial & editorial work like the shoot featured here. If you’re in need of a portrait photo for your profile picture, instagram, SNS, social media or small business, then I’d be happy to hear from you and come up with some ideas together

I absolutely love the traditional backstreets of Asakusa with all the red colours, vintage shop fronts and colourful lanterns. The colours just pop, especially when wearing a beautiful Kimono and red parasol! There are plenty of rental shops for Kimonos in and around Asakusa which make it easy and convenient to organise a photoshoot. I often suggest Vasara Rental Kimonos as they have a good selection with a range of prices. If you’re going for a premium Kimono, expect to pay around 10,000 yen for rental and about 1 hour to get ready. Of course, we can also do the shoot wearing a Yukata or more modern outfits too.

I like my photos to have quite a natural feel to them, a more timeless and film like look rather than something over-edited and too digital looking. I love playing with traditional and classical posing but still keeping a more contemporary feel to the photos. Likewise, I love to experiment with some more alternative stuff too! Sabrina (check out her instagram here) did a lovely job modelling for this shoot and we able to get some beautiful portraits in a variety of different backdrops in Asakusa.

I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking!
