A beautiful Elopement in a Buddhist Temple, Kyoto, Japan

A small and intimate Elopement ceremony in a beautiful Buddhist Temple hidden away in the charming streets of Kyoto, Japan

The team at elope in Japan outdid themselves again in securing this wonderful venue and one of Kyoto’s most respected Buddhist monks to host this beautiful wedding ceremony. Hidden away in one of Kyoto’s many charming backstreets, this temple setting was absolutely stunning and an amazing setting for such an important memory in ones life.

When these two lovely people got in touch with me to document their special day here in Japan I was absolutely delighted - especially as we were most likely going to time this at the peak of the Autumn leaves season (my favourite time of year for photos). I knew the shoot was going to be spectacular and the Buddhist ceremony was going to be something quite special indeed.

We started the day in the backstreets of Higashiyama and Ninenzaka for a more casual photoshoot. Since Kyoto does get rather busy as the day goes on, we woke up ready for sunrise and managed to roam the streets relatively free of other people. I always love these morning shoots as it serves as a good warm up for the main event itself. After a little break and some breakfast to warm up, we all started getting ready and headed to the venue.

When we pulled up to the venue and saw the red maple leaves towering over the temple walls I knew we were in for a treat. It really was a perfect day and well…I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking!

If you’re interested in a shoot like this and specifically this venue, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team at elope in Japan and they can organise everything for you!
